Ravis McBride Carter, 80, died Oct. 24, 2005.
She was the daughter of Arline S. McBride of Suffolk and the late Alvin Maurice McBride. Mrs. Carter was predeceased by her husband, Warren Randolph Carter and brother, Alvin Maurice McBride, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Warren Randolph Carter Jr. and his wife, Luci of Suffolk; her daughter, Nancy Carter Hammond and her husband Peter of Williamsburg; sisters, Muriel McBride and Frances McBride Davis of Suffolk. She was the proud grandmother of Carter Randolph Hammond and his wife Lisa and Caroline McBride Hammond all of Williamsburg.
Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Suffolk High School and Mary Washington College and was a former schoolteacher.
She was a member of West End Baptist Church and the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Cedar Hill Cemetery by the Rev. T. Floyd Irby Jr. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Trust Fund of West End Baptist Church, the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad or to a charity of one’s choice.
