Shuttle service coming for hotel? June 22, 2005

One of the challenges facing the new Hilton, I'm told, is the lack of reliable taxi service. Guests are apparently unable to get to places like Pisces restaurant to eat dinner and back to the hotel via cab. Guests with their own cars and no knowledge of downtown Suffolk would likely struggle finding parking to get to the restaurant.
I understand a solution is being considered. Sources tell me we may soon be seeing a shuttle running back and forth between the hotel and various spots around the city n a taxpayer funded shuttle, of course.
In keeping with the historic ambience of downtown Suffolk, I'm told it could be made up to look like an old time streetcar. That would be cool, I guess.
Officials might want to consider also offering some type of transport from the Suffolk Airport to the hotel. Enterprise rental car is wonderful about bringing cars down to the airport and leaving them for folks who call in advance, but I'm sure business travelers would find a shuttle a nice amenity.
Speaking of the Hilton, we received a letter last week from one of the high-ranking officials at the hotel about the roaring success of the hotel so far. We've been looking it over and in our opinion, it's more of an advertising piece n which we sell and is how we make our living. If we start giving that away we'll be in trouble.
The letter makes some claims regarding occupancy that we are unable to verify. We are looking at quoting from it for a story and following up to verify what the letter states, so be watching for it.
