Man charged with posing as police officer

A Suffolk man was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer Wednesday after he allegedly tried to pull over a vehicle on Route 58.
George Dana Evans, 40, allegedly pulled alongside a vehicle, motioned for the driver to pull over, and displayed a hat with an FBI logo on it. The driver of the vehicle contacted police and stayed with Evans before pulling into a parking lot.
Upon inspection of Evans’ car, police located an unloaded M1 rifle.
Evans has been released on $1,000 bond. Impersonating a Police Officer is a class one misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and/or $1,000 fine.
