The Lake Kilby Garden Club will meet at noon today in the home of Connie Taylor, 114 S. Broad St. Carol Woolard is co-hostess. The exhibit of the day is to be &uot;Just for Fun,&uot; a favorite arrangement. There is no judging.
Suffolk-Nansemond Chapter to meet
The Suffolk-Nansemond Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will meet at 6:30 p.m. on May 18. Speakers include James Beckley, Sean Priest and
Deborah Miller, with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Specific topics will be the ammunition dump at T. C. C., northern Suffolk, old dumps within the city, and introducing the Environmental Association for Senior Involvement.
The meeting will be held at the Kings Fork Community House on Kings Fork Road.
Woman’s Club will hold annual luncheon
Junto Woman’s Club, a member of GFWC Virginia, will hold its annual luncheon at noon on Tuesday, May 17 at Cedar Point County Club. A musical program will be presented by the &uot;Heavenly Harmonies,&uot; a quartet of ladies from the Portsmouth music group. Call 538-1771 for more information.
St. Luke’s
Restoration will hold ceremony
Historic St. Luke’s Restoration, Inc., 14477 Benn’s Church Blvd., Smithfield, will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m.
May 22 to place a new grave marker, which will be dedicated to Gabriel Alexander Dickie Galt, M.D. (G. A. D. Galt) at a ceremony in conjunction with the local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Dr. Galt was buried behind St. Luke’s Church in 1908.
Dr. Galt served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and was known for developing an improved instrument used in brain surgery.
He practiced medicine in Norfolk, Portsmouth, and the Benn’s Church area of Isle of Wight County up until about 1901. The ceremony will be conducted on the east side of the church at the existing burial site and a reception will follow.
