A 44-year-old woman who admitted to dispensing prescription drugs to a community service worker was evicted from the Suffolk Shelter for the Homeless Friday.
Carroll Cavin-McKee was given written notice on May 4 that she had two days to leave the Finney Avenue facility for illegal use of the painkiller, Vicodin, said Terry Miller, the shelter’s executive director.
The eviction came after a shelter employee overheard Cavin-McKee on Tuesday discuss sharing her prescribed medication with the community service worker assigned to work at the shelter, Miller said.
A second employee heard the worker indicate Cavin-McKee had given him medication in the past, Miller added.
Although the shelter did not call police, the community service worker’s probation officer has been notified, Miller said.
Cavin-McKee, who apparently left the shelter on Friday morning, could not be contacted.
Last year, the homeless shelter came under fire from city leaders regarding its eviction policy after six families who did not follow policy were put out just days before Thanksgiving. Shelter officials stand by their guidelines.
