Three people are recovering in local hospitals after an accident on the
U.S. Route 58 Bypass around noon Thursday.
The driver and a 2-year-old boy were airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after their westbound car ran off the road and struck a tree, said Lt. Debbie George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department.
The driver, an adult male whose name has not yet been released, is in critical condition, George said. The toddler is in good condition.
An adult female passenger is in good condition in Obici Hospital,
George said.
Initial investigations show that the driver veered off the left side of the road, then overcorrected and ran off the road a second time before hitting the tree, George said.
Master Police Officer C. Bryant is continuing to investigate the accident.
