Players of the Year

Keith Josey, NR

Josey finally got his turn in the spotlight in his farewell year in 2004-05, and made the most of it, dominated the paint better than anyone else in the district.

Racking up a double-double in 19 of the team’s 22 regular season games earned him the much-deserved District Player of the Year award, and as icing on the cake, the Warriors continued on to their fourth consecutive district title and third straight tournament title. Here’s hoping that he can keep that streak going when he moves onto college next season.

Stephanie Adams, NR

A year ago, I wrote an editorial about NSA’s Claire Leonard being Suffolk’s tiniest giantess. Well, this time around, Adams gets the nod – and at a reed-thin 5’4&uot;, she’s even smaller than Leonard!

The bright spot on a hit-and-miss squad for the past four years, Adams was perhaps the finest three-point gunner in the district, and someone that the other players were willing to follow. If they could have just figured out a way to stretch her a foot taller, the River girls might have matched the success of their male counterparts!
