Just keep it simple when it comes to city government

Editor, the News-Herald,

Keep it simple. I thought of this as we were discussing tax relief for senior citizens of Suffolk. Why not just allow all senior citizens of Suffolk to take 10 percent or 20 percent off their tax bill and that’s it. The idea fits the bill of a sound and equitable program of property tax relief for all homeowning senior citizens and stays with the principle of K.I.S.S.

On the note of taking over the roads, the Virginia Department of Transportation has provided rural Suffolk with excellent service for the past 30 years. I would like to thank all the employees who have cut our grass, cleaned our ditches and replaced our culverts free of charge. The city wants to take over these jobs from you in order to get its hands on more money. We morning coffee drinkers have come to the following conclusion: if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Thanks again VDOT.
