The former deputy city clerk of Arlington County is coming to work in Suffolk.
The Suffolk City Council on Wednesday confirmed the employment of newly hired Deputy City Clerk Tracey Sanford. She will be assisting City Clerk Erika Jenkins.
Sanford, who holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from James Madison University, will start on March 16, said Dennis Craff, spokesman for the city. While he didn’t know her salary, the range for the position is $26,075 to $37,780.
Although it was never filled, the deputy clerk’s position was approved in last year’s budget, said Mayor Bobby L. Ralph.
In the past, employees from other departments have helped out whenever necessary, Ralph said.
But recently, it has become increasingly evident that a full-time employee is needed, he said.
&uot;The workload has built up so much,&uot; Ralph said. &uot;In addition to helping Erika, she will also be responsible for assisting the mayor and council members.&uot;
Ralph said Sanford will help him with scheduling appointments, screening people who come in for meetings and helping respond to correspondence.
&uot;There is a lot that comes across my desk that needs a prompt response…that is sometimes hard for me to get to,&uot; Ralph said.
&uot;She will be helping me a great deal with that correspondence.&uot;
