Suffolk Circuit Court Judge Carl Eason on Wednesday continued local attorney Johnnie E. Mizelle’s arraignment on two sex-related charges.
The arraignment has not yet been rescheduled, according to the Circuit Court Clerk’s office.
The former mayor was arrested at his West Washington Street law office on Jan. 25, one day after a grand jury indicted him on one count of assault and battery and one count of solicitation for prostitution.
The allegations were made by a 43-year-old woman who said Mizelle, 58, &uot;assaulted her by groping her with his hands and suggested that she perform sexual favors in exchange for legal fees owed&uot; during meetings on Nov. 24 and Dec. 3,
said Lt. Debbie George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department.
Mizelle, speaking through his attorney Andrew Sacks, denied the allegations last week.
Police are investigating similar complaints filed by several additional women since Mizelle’s arrests, George said.
