Suffolk may be blanketed in white this weekend.
The National Weather Service is predicting a 50 percent chance of rain Saturday, followed by a 40 percent chance of snow on Sunday, said Capt. James T. Judkins, the city’s emergency services coordinator.
The city is gearing up for the possibility of snow over the weekend, said Eric Nielsen, the city’s director of public works.
&uot;We got our sand supply fully stocked and six trucks ready to roll if we get any snow,&uot; he said. &uot;We are ready.&uot;
When snow initially hit Suffolk Wednesday, traffic accidents were the norm throughout the city.
Suffolk Police responded to 126 accidents without injuries from noon to midnight, and eight with non-life threatening injuries.
As was the case throughout much of Virginia and North Carolina, traffic backups could be found throughout Suffolk,
particularly on the North Main Street corridor and surrounding the ongoing construction on the now closed Constance Road.
City spokesman Dennis Craff said the inclement weather has delayed the underground utilities project, and plans to reopen one lane next week are likely stalled.
