Saints win, Lakeland swept on the courts

Ryland Gwaltney and Matt Hamlet sank three-pointers as part of an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter as Nansemond-Suffolk Academy defeated host Catholic 68-62 on Friday. Gwaltney and Hamlet both dropped in career highs with 24 and 18 points, and Kyle Jett had 13. The Saints will host Hampton Roads Academy next Friday.
The momentum swung the other way for the Lady Saints, who allowed the host Lady Crusaders to slip away on a late 16-7 run as Catholic won, 41-35. Courtney White led NSA with 10 points. The Lady Saints will visit HRA next Friday.
It was a tough day for Lakeland, as the boys suffered through their second consecutive lackluster performance in an 83-57 loss to host Great Bridge. Jaleel Nelson scored 18 points for the Cavaliers.
Natasha Whitworth led the Lady Cavs with 12 points in a 69-39 home loss. The boys stay home to play Western Branch on Tuesday, while the girls head to Chesapeake.
