Dorothy H. Burton

Dorothy H. Burton, 79, a retired registered nurse, died Jan. 9, 2005.

Born Aug. 20, 1925, in Smithfield, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Elma Hedgepeth Hancock. Mrs. Burton was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. As a registered nurse, she taught at Louise Obici School of Nursing for 12 years and then served as a nurse for the health department for 10 years.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence W. Burton; daughter, Christine B. Ward of Suffolk; son and daughter-in-law, Clarence W. and Diana Burton Jr. of Spotsylvania; a brother, Jesse T. Hancock Jr. of Waynesboro; and grandchildren, Douglas Ward, Lee Anne Ward, Jonathan Burton and Hayley Burton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the graveside in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Robert J. Parks Jr. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home and Crematory from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
