A Whaleyville woman is in serious condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after her car collided with a tractor-trailer early Tuesday.

Around 7:47 a.m., police were called to the 3300 block of Whaleyville Boulevard in Suffolk near Babbtown Road where the head-on collision occurred.

The accident involved a 1996 Chevrolet Corsica operated by Lindsey Schubert, 19, of the 4500 block of Whaleyville Boulevard, and a tractor-trailer, driven by James Morris, of Candle Light Drive in Chesapeake.

Schubert was initially taken to Obici Hospital, but later transported to Sentara, where she remained in serious condition Tuesday evening, said Dale Gauding, spokesman for Sentara.

Morris, who was driving a truck owned by D.D. Jones Transfer, of Chesapeake, complained of pain at the accident scene, but declined medical treatment, said Police Sgt. J. H. Meston.

Police reports indicate that the car, while traveling north on Whaleyville Boulevard, was partially in the southbound lane when the crash occurred, according to Meston.

As for property damages, the vehicle was declared a total loss, and the total damage to the tractor-trailer was estimated at $15,000.

No charges had been filed as of late Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing.
