Two people were airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Monday after a partial head-on collision in the 4400 block of Godwin Boulevard around 10 p.m.
Both Sharon Kay Gale, 45, of Portsmouth Boulevard, and Jason Ray Peaks, 20, of Mill Run Court, the drivers of the two involved vehicles, were taken to the Norfolk hospital with serious leg and arm injuries, according to police.
Also, a 7-year-old passenger in Peaks’ car was taken to Obici Hospital with bruises and abrasions, police said.
Officials reported that the accident happened when Gale, who was heading north on Godwin, swerved into the southbound lane, striking the 1998 Ford driven by Peaks. Peaks’ car spun off the road into the right ditch; Gale’s 1989 Pontiac spun off the opposite side of the road and flipped onto its roof.
Gale was charged with a DUI (first offense) and reckless driving, police said.
