Margaret A. Doughty

Margaret Artis Doughty, 85, of the 2000 block of Hickorywood Drive, Suffolk, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Autumn Care Nursing Center, Portsmouth.
A native of Nansemond County, now Suffolk, she was a daughter of the late Mary Catherine Lawrence and Elliot Artis, and the widow of Willie E. Doughty Jr. She was predeceased by three daughters, Velma Doughty, Margaret Bullock and Delores Winborne; one grandson, Michael Bullock Jr.; three sisters, Flossie Jones, Elizabeth Hyman and Priscilla Mitchell; and one brother, Leon Artis.
Mrs. Doughty retired from Planters Peanut Co. after more than 50 years of service.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mahan Street, where she held membership in the Sunday School, the Lily of the Valley Club and Birth Month Club, just to name a few.
She is survived by one son, Willie E. Doughty III; six grandchildren, Willie E. Doughty IV, Zena (Larry) Divens, Kenneth Doughty, Gerriod Doughty, Zondell (Darrell) Carter, and Tracy (Kenneth) Calif.; four brothers, Alfonza (Mary) Artis, James (Rosa) Artis, Philmore Artis, and Zebedee (Jean) Artis; four sisters, Josephine Barnes, Melvinia (Hosea) Faulcon, Mattie (Theodore) Robinson, and Mary (Curtis) Washington; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church, Mahan Street, by the Rev. Steven Blunt. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friend at the home of Mrs. Mary Washington, 21008 Hickorywood Drive, Suffolk.
The family will assemble there also at 10 a.m. the morning of the funeral for the procession to the church.
