Eric Berry set a new school record by smashing his seventh home run of the season and Jeremy Riggs pitched a complete game as Nansemond River defeated host Western Branch 4-2 on Friday. Berry’s blast was a solo shot in the third inning. Dustin Hilton drove in two runs, and Matt Wyle went two-for-two while Riggs struck out five.
The NR softball team also came out on top Friday, scoring two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh for a 5-2 victory over the Lady Bruins. Ali Mowry drove in three runs in the win, and Megan Belch knocked out a pair of hits.
Lindly Theroux struck out eight, holding Branch to a single hit in the last six innings. Both Warrior teams visit Great Bridge on Tuesday. The baseball team fell to the Wildcats earlier this season, while the Lady Warriors won.
