Celebrating Foreign Language Week

Forest Glen Middle School recently celebrated Foreign Language Week in many ways. A total of 90 students from the Spanish I, Latin I, French I, and Seventh-Grade Foreign Language Exploratory (FLEX) classes participated. There was a Door-Decorating Contest won by a group effort consisting of Katie DeVenuto, Jessica Sprouse and Jenny Tacke for their Spanish decorations. Amarina Betkowski and Kathryn Kiser teamed up and won the Poster Contest for their Spanish poster; and Lynsey Daughtrey won the Poster Contest for her Latin poster. Spanish Teacher Francisco Sanin held dance lessons for students. On March 19, a celebration was held with a feast of several different Spanish, Latin and French dishes and desserts. The students were asked to prepare a special food to share with classmates, so all would have the opportunity to experience the cuisine of foreign cultures. After the taste-testing, a dance contest was held. The winners were Rebekah Joyce, Jason Robertson, Charity Strothers, and Jenny Tacke. The prize for the dance contest was ‘front of the line’ privileges for the breaking of the pinatas. All of the foreign language students went out onto the school grounds to a tree where the pinatas were hung and experienced the fun of a Spanish fiesta. The students gathered around to collect the goodies when the pinatas were broken. Call Principal Daniel O’Leary at 925-5550 for more information.
