Suffolk field hockey winds down

Lakeland’s Melissa Dunn and the rest of her team ended its fourth straight Southeastern district-winning season Thursday with a 1-0 defeat of host First Colonial. A breakaway goal in overtime by Katelyn Smither helped the Lady Cavaliers to victory. On Oct. 29, they’ll start the district tournament as the top seed, with cross-town rival Nansemond River ranked second. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy seniors (pictured front row, l-r) Sarah D’Haem, Brooke Perry and Judith Payne; (back row, l-r) Sarah McLemore, Jessie Dobson, Mary Speight, and Laura Doland fell in their &uot;Senior Day&uot; game 2-1 to visiting Hampton Roads Academy, the second consecutive year that HRA has ruined NSA’s &uot;Senior Day.&uot; Megan Patterson scored the sole Lady Saint goal, off an assist from Payne. The Lady Saints will host Norfolk Collegiate at noon today.
