A balanced attack led the AC Ballers to a 2-0 record in Suffolk Parks and Recreation basketball league competition on Sunday evening at King’s Fork Recreation Center, as Latoya Taylor knocked in 16 points, Rebecca Bailey 12 and Amy Patterson 11 in the team’s 54-31 victory over the Virginia Beach Ballers.
&uot;Having an all-around team is going to help us go all the way this year,&uot; Bailey said. &uot;We recruited a little until we found a great team.&uot;
One new recruit was Hampton resident Veronica Johnson, who intends to use the league to tune-up for Maryland’s Hagerstown College in the fall. &uot;I wasn’t really used to this team yet,&uot; said the four-year varsity star at Bethel High School, who made her debut along with Carla Rhone. &uot;I’m sure we’ll be OK.&uot;
In earlier women’s’ action, The Warriors defeated Just Bring It 45-26 behind Candace Edwards’ 20 point. The only mens’ game was the Parks and Rec. Dept.’s 104-47 rout of Cost Plus. Tony Smith led all scorers with 37 points, 33 of which came on three-pointers.
The other three mens’ games were forfeited.
