Meeting set tonight about rail projects

A Community Information Meeting is being sponsored by Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett to discuss an application by Commonwealth Railway, Inc. to apply for funding for certain projects through the State Rail Preservation Program
This will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, in Nansemond River High School.
Funds will be used for the following projects:
1. Construction of a 7,800 foot siding on the south side of the existing main line. The location of the proposed siding is locatedbetween Sportsman Boulevard and Nansemond Parkway (near its intersection with Wilroy Road). The estimated cost of this project is: $1,361,200.
Improvements to the railroad crossing at Progress Road. The estimated cost of this project is: $61,500.
