CAPRON – Five feature events are planned for this Friday, June 13, when Southampton Motor Speedway continues its 2003 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series schedule with U.S. Army Recruitment Night presented by the Pepsi-Cola soda company.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. Front gates open and practice gets under way at 4:30. Time trials begin at 6:40 and the first race goes green at 8.

Friday’s lineup includes: RaceWorld.com Late Model Stock Cars (100 laps); Mike Duman Auto Sales Limited Late Models (50 laps); Rick’s Rock Cafe Pure Stocks (25 laps); INEX Little Race Cars Legends (25 laps); and, the Mid-Atlantic Toys For Tots Pro Cup Challenge for the Scale Racing League Arena-Cup cars (25 laps).

Tickets are $12 for adults and $4 for youths (6-12). Children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Active-duty military (with ID), senior citizens (65+) and teens (13-19) receive a $2 discount off the adult admission price.

Sixteen interviews with 15 drivers are featured in this week’s edition of &uot;In Victory Lane with Neal Steele&uot; on the track’s Web site: Southampton Motor Speed-way.com. Fans can click on the links to listen to track announcer Neal Steele’s post-race interviews with the top finishers from last Friday’s feature races. Since he won both ends of the Late Model Stock Car Twin 50s, Mark McFarland and got two opportunities at the mike.

McFarland’s victories last Friday were the first ever for a Dodge product in the track’s top division, dating back to 1992. In fact, the last Dodge win in any of the track’s weekly eight-cylinder divisions came on Sept. 14, 1996, when Terry Browning steered an Avenger to victory in the Late Model Stock feature – on dirt. (Note: In those days, the Super Late Models were considering the track’s top class.)

With the Scale Racing League Arena-Cup cars returning to SMS this Friday, fans will have another opportunity to contribute to the Toys For Tots campaign. Donate a new, unwrapped toy and you’ll be entered for a prize drawing during the evening. Also, raffle tickets will be on sale for a chance to win a brand-new Arena-Cup car. That drawing will be held at the end of the season and proceeds will go to Toys For Tots.&uot;

In its fourth season under the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series banner, Southampton Motor Speedway is a 4/10-mile, paved tri-oval, similar in configuration to Richmond International Raceway. The track is located on U.S. Highway 58, one mile west of Capron and 17 miles east of I-95 (Emporia exit).
