Aaron Stacy kicked in an assist from George Orth will five seconds left as Lakeland defeated visiting Woodside 1-0 Tuesday evening. After Orth’s corner kick flew past a sprawling Jean-Louis Bile and deflected off the goalkeeper’s hands, Stacy stopped it with his chest and knocked it into the upper-left corner of the net for the game’s only score.
&uot; With all the people around me, I didn’t know if it was going in,&uot; said Stacy, a junior.
Though the Cavaliers held a 14-5 shooting advantage in the second half (and 21-12 overall), both teams missed several scoring opportunities.
Back in the Lakeland goal, David West, making his return to varsity competition after missing last year with a broken arm, stuffed the Woodside offense in the second half (Victor Taglis had shut Woodside out in the first).
&uot;It felt great to win that,&uot; said West. &uot;We tied them last year, so I wasn’t putting up with another tie!&uot; Lakeland will host Norview Thursday.
