William McCager Brown Sr. of the 400 block of Hollywood Ave., died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Obici Hospital. He was a native of

Suffolk and son of Nellie Cooper Brown, and the late William Curly Brown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1952 thru 1955 and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 99 until his recent illness.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Juan A. McCray of Woodbridge, Va. and William McCager Brown Jr. and his mother, Alice Wiggins of Suffolk; one granddaughter, LaKeisha R. McCray and one great-grandson, Antonio R. McCray of Woodbridge; one adopted daughter, Shirley Boone and husband, Darryl of Suffolk; one sister, Marion Godwin of Suffolk; one brother, Owen Leander Brown and his wife, Diane of Houston, Tex.; five aunts, four nephews, two nieces, 20 grand nieces and nephews, 12 great nieces and nephews, two very good friends Robert (Bobby) Jolly and Robert (Pop) Featherston as well as many cousins and friends.

McCager will be eulogized on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 1 p.m in East End Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Croston officiating. The body will be taken to the church at 11:30 a.m. The interment will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family

from 7-8 p.m.

Friday, March 7, in Crocker Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorial donations be made to the Nansemond Credit Union for his eight year-old son’s college trust fund in the name of William McCager Brown Jr.

East Suffolk High School class of 52 is asked to serve as honorary flower bearers and pallbearers.
