New doctors in town specialize in care of cancer patients

Obici Hospital is proud to welcome Drs. Daniel Atienza and Randy Howard. The two are representatives of the Virginia Oncology Associates, a medical group of physicians specializing in the care of cancer patients with practices serving Southeast Virginia and bordering counties of North Carolina.
Dr. Atienza attended the University of East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, College of Medicine in the Philippines. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and a clinical fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Atienza is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Atienza has held faculty positions at Georgetown University and Texas Tech University. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is the Medical Director at the DePaul Cancer Center.
A devoted husband and father, Dr. Atienza has active medical licenses in Virginia and North Carolina and currently practices in Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.
Dr. Howard was the head of the Hematology Oncology division of Portsmouth Naval Hospital for five years prior to joining Mid-Atlantic Consultants in Hematology Oncology. He graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and did his residency in Internal Medicine at Oakland Naval Hospital and was Chief Resident during his last year. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology.
Howard’s Hematology Oncology fellowship was completed at the Naval Oncology branch of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a member of ASCO and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has published several articles in both oncology and hematology literature. He is a member of the Transfusion Committee at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and the Medical Audit Committee at Maryview Hospital. He currently practices at Mid-Atlantic Consultants in Hematology Oncology in Southeastern Virginia.
