The Suffolk City Council will not be meeting this week, freeing the calendar for most council members and some city administrators to attend a convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Five council members, along with City Manager Myles E. Standish and Assistant City Manager Cindy Rohlf, will be attending the National League of Cities’ Congress of Cities Dec. 3-8.
Mayor E. Dana Dickens, Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett and council members Charles Brown, Curtis Milteer, and Bobby Ralph will be leaving for the weeklong convention today.
Other city employees going include Council Clerk Erika Jenkins and City Attorney Ed Roettger.
Council members Linda Johnson and Calvin Jones are not going.
No spouses are planning to go on the trip, Dickens said.
The convention will feature an array of seminars and training workshops for council members, Dickens said.
According to the organization’s Web site, featured topics include diversity, homeland security, healthcare, economic development, land use and municipal finance.
The council canceled its Dec. 4 meeting.
