On Thursday, Dorothy Rawles and Shelia Knight presented dolls to the Salvation Army on behalf of the Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
The chapter has dressed dolls for the organization for over two decades and has won several ribbons for having the best dressed dolls.
The project was originally presented to the sorority by the late Ruth Harrison and Sallie Graham.
Project chairmen this year are Elizabeth Pitt, Dorothy Rawles and Eunice Wiggins. Chapter Basileus is Shelia R. Knight.
The Salvation Army partners with many local volunteer organizations who participate in the Salvation Army Dolls and Bears program. This also provides a doll or bear ready to be dressed by a group’s volunteer. The person dresses the doll or bear with either homemade or purchased clothing. The organization then returns the doll or bear to The Salvation Army for distribution to local needy boys and girls, especially at Christmas.
&uot;The participation of volunteer groups in these projects allows us to involve many caring people in the service of others,&uot; said Captain David May with the Salvation Army.
&uot;At a time when it is easy to feel that no one truly cares, these bears and dolls remind children that someone cares about them enough to make a unique, custom-design toy just for them – a one-of-a kind toy for a one-of-a-kind child.&uot;
