AAU Boys 13-and-under team tryouts today

The Suffolk AAU Boys 13-and-under basketball team will be holding tryouts at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3 at Nansemond River High School.

Lakeland winter sports banquet to be held Nov. 4
Lakeland High school will hold its Winter Sports Meeting at 7 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 4, in the school cafeteria. Parents and athletes interested in obtaining information about boy’s or girls basketball, wrestling, and indoor track should attend.
Local Tennis Association meeting to be Nov. 9
The annual Suffolk Tennis Association (STA) meeting Fall Banquet will be held at the Nansemond River Golf Club at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 9.
The speaker will be Anne Bender, an accomplished tennis player and coach (and current gym teacher at John Yeates Middle School) that will discuss Lakeland High School tennis. Local are invited to come out and meet the Suffolk Tennis Association Board Members and learn about all the programs the STA offers, including men’s night, ladies leagues, working women’s leagues, junior clinics, adult & junior tournaments, tennis socials and more.

Rain cancels Lakeland field hockey game
For the third time, rain caused the cancellation of the Lakeland-Grandy Eastern Region field hockey tournament game on Thursday. Weather permitting, the game will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Bayside High School in Virginia Beach.
Soccer, basketball signups start Oct. 26
Registration for the Parks and Rec. Department indoor soccer and basketball leagues will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays until Nov. 23 at the Mack Benn, Oakland, King’s Fork, and Northern Shores Recreation Centers. The cost is $35 for novice (5-7) and $40 for Pee-Wee (8-10) and Midget (11-13). For more information, call 923-2360.
‘Canned Food’ games set for Nov. 23-27
The East Suffolk Federated Civil League will be holding its 18th annual &uot;Canned Food Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament&uot; Nov. 23-27 at Booker T. Washington Recreation Center.
Eight teams of ages 9-12, 13-17, and 18-and-above will be allowed. Teams may have a maximum of 12 players. All team deposits or registration fees must be paid by Nov. 9. All team members are required to bring a canned food to each game. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Suffolk Rescue Squad and all food will go to non-profit organizations.
