Mr. and Mrs. McKinley Shoulders of Suffolk celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, Aug. 30 in the Holiday Inn, Suffolk.
This gala was given by their children, Reginald M. Shoulders Sr. and Mrs. Sylvia S. Wade, both of Richmond.
The evening commenced with a rededication ceremony performed by the Rev. Horace Wade Jr., who is their son-in-law and pastor of First Union Baptist Church of Richmond.
The couple’s pastor, the Rev. Nathaniel Scates Jr. of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Suffolk, assisted him.
Mr. and Mrs. Shoulders’ daughter and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sylvia S. Wade and Mrs. Frances B. Shoulders served as the matrons of honor. The honorees’ son, Reginald Shoulders, escorted his mother, and Melvin L. Copeland, brother of Mrs. Shoulders, served as the best man.
Family and friends gathered to wish the couple many more years of marital bliss.
They were entertained by several pictorial power-point presentations about the couple’s life, given a special dedication by the couple’s grandchildren, and heard reminiscings from family and friends.
The evening ended with the cutting of the anniversary cake and expressions by the honorees.
