Tommy Bess, 56, of 300 North 4th St., Suffolk, Va., passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Thomas Edwards and Virgie Bess. He was preceded in death by his adopted mother, Roxie Mosley.
He graduated in 1971 from John Yeates High School.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Issi Patterson (Phillip); five sisters, Carolyn Bess, Phyllis Holland, Karen Bess, all of Suffolk, Carrie Ann Mitchell (Peter), of Oxon Hill, Md., and Cathy Warren, of Franklin, Va.; three brothers, Paul Bess, Ricky Bess (Glenora), both of Suffolk, Israel Bess, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Chardonnay Patterson and Djannay Patterson; an uncle, Herbert Cross; other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Greater Sweet Beulah Holiness Church officiated by Suffragan Bishop Madison G. Copeland. A wake will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, before the funeral at the church. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Chuckatuck, Va. The family will receive visitors at the home of Ricky Bess, 517 Cedar Court, and Issi Patterson, 111 Charlotte Ave. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
