Sarah Elizabeth Byrd, 97, a resident of Heritage Oaks, Richmond, Va., formerly of Suffolk, Va., passed away June 5, 2010 at Hospice of Virginia, Retreat Hospital, Richmond, Va. She was the daughter of the late Mary and Jethro Smith Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David Wesley Byrd.
She was a longtime member of Liberty Spring Christian Church.
She is survived by two nieces, Jean P. Jeffries and Olivia H. Kennedy, and three nephews, Ernest Hazelwood Jr., James J. Powell Jr., Clyde S. Powell Jr., and three great-nieces and four great-nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434 by Allen Lancaster, with burial in Liberty Spring Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall.
