Roosevelt Smith, 93, of Chesapeake, formerly of 1011 Custis Road, Suffolk, died Jan. 7, 2010, at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth. He was a native of Pasquotank, North Carolina and the son of the late Willis Whitehurst and Millie Anderson.
He was educated in the North Carolina School System and retired from the Norfolk Naval Base. He was a member of New Creation Community Church and the congregation of Grace Communion International. Mr. Smith was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith; one daughter Shurny Parker of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday at Crocker Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Timothy Brassell. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will assemble at 11:30 a.m. at Crocker Funeral Home on Wednesday for the funeral service.
