Thomas Lee Gay of 2008 Spruce Wood Lane died April 22, 2010 in Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of the late Waverly Gray and Rebecca Beamon. He was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Gay.
He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School class of 1956 and attended Norfolk State University. He retired at the Naval Supply Center as an automotive mechanic. He was a member of Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church, where he was in the men’s fellowship and the van ministry.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Maggie Goodman Gay; daughter, Anita Rabey Brown of Suffolk; one son, Stephen R. Gay (Edna) of Smithfield; one brother, James Waverly Gay of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Nekayla Knight of Sunbury, N.C., John “Jay” Smith, Daiquan Rabey, Kierra Goodman and Thailent Brown, all of Suffolk and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. April 28 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Rev. V. T. Chambers. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. A wake will be held April 27 from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
