SUFFOLK — Robert Lee “Buster” Ricks Sr., 70, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Southampton County and the son of the late Gloss Ricks Warren.
Robert was born May 12, 1939 and attended Southampton County Public Schools. He was a member of St. Luke UCC, Sedley, Va. Robert retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company.
Buster leaves to cherish his memory one son, Robert Ricks Jr., of Suffolk; four daughters, Iris Gholston (James), Angela Ricks-Williams (Huddie), LaShawnda Evans (Rodell), all of Suffolk, and Linda Ricks, of Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren, Irishia Gholston, Aneshia Ricks, Crystal Gholston, Rodell Evans III and Zoe Evans; a sister, Catherine Warren Nicholson, of Hampton, Va.; two brothers, James Warren (Vivian), of Sedley, Va., and Nathaniel Warren (Liz), of Virginia Beach, Va.; an aunt, Maggie Jennings, of Hampton, Va.; his friend, Bertha Bowers; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at 1 p.m. at St. Luke UCC, 14166 St. Luke’s Road, Sedley, Va. Interment will be in the Ricks Family Memorial Garden. The family will be at the home of James & Iris Gholston, 390 Collier Crescent (Walnut Hill) in Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
