Suffolk – George William Cargill of 215 Bute Street answered the call of the Almighty God and descended to his Heavenly home on October 8, 2009 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Sussex County and the son of the late Mrs. Cecil C. White. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene C. Patillo and Lula M. Futrell; one aunt Luvenia Cargill.
Mr. Cargill served in the U. S. Army. He retired from International Longshoreman’s Association, former President of Willliamstown Civic League, former Trustee for the Suffolk Elks Lodge #206, former Colonel for the Greater Suffolk Marching Unit (Antler Guard) and a member of the Star of Sharon Masonic Lodge #231. He was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Christian Church where he was former President of the Trustee Board. He never met a stranger or enemy that he wasn’t always willing to lend a helping hand.
Mr. Cargill is survived by a daughter, Maurice Johnson; four grandchildren, Beatrice Boone, Gwen Johnson, Jeanette Johnson and Tony Johnson; three nieces, Loretta Y. Cargill, Saundra C. Harris and Wanda F. Futrell; three nephews, Willie Futrell, Jr. (Deborah), Michael R. Futrell and Carlos C. Futrell; great nieces and nephews, Andrea Abdullah, RaShanda A. Futrell, Keoni R. Futrell, Tomeka Hardy, Miguel Futrell, Jamel M. Futrell, Anesha Futrell, Shynika Stovall, and Demetria S. Futrell; other relatives and friends.
A homegoing service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Bethlehem Christian Church, Bute Street officiated by Rev. Emmanuel Myrick, Jr. Interment will be in Albert Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Family will receive friends at 215 Bute Street, Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
