During the late evening hours of Monday, Nov. 2, God in his all knowing power and infinite wisdom called home our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Miss Wendy La’Doris Smith, 39, of 902 Bank St.
Wendy was born on Feb. 22, 1970 to Herbert “Pork Chop” Smith Sr. and Doris Jean Smith. Educated in Suffolk Public Schools, she was a 1988 graduate of Suffolk High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Rachel Yvette Smith.
Wendy will be sorrowfully missed, but not forgotten, by her husband, Kenneth B. Payton Jr.; son, Kenneth Bernard Payton III; loving parents, Herbert and Doris Smith Sr.; sister, Lisa Smith Pray; one brother, Herbert “Big Herb” Smith Jr. (Emily); niece, Laila Renee’ Smith; nephew, Dominique Lamont Pray; uncle, Arthur Lee Smith; two aunts, Thelma Smith and Louella Smith; special brother, Calvin Boone; and a host of other family and friends.
A visitation will take place from noon to 7 p.m., and wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6 at the funeral home. A service of remembrance will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7 at Tabernacle Christian Church, where the Rev. Dr. Carlton Upton is pastor. Interment will immediately follow at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
