Jerry Monroe

Jerry Owen Monroe, 65, went to be with his wife for a long awaited reunion on Aug. 23, 2009, at his home in Surry, Va., with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Martin Monroe.
Jerry was born in Lynchburg on Nov. 16, 1943, a son of the late Carl A. Monroe and Alpha Cumbie Monroe, of Surry. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy, worked for over 25 years at the Surry Nuclear Power Plant, and managed Gray’s Creek Marina in Surry for more than 10 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Kyttle, of Surry, sons, Jeffrey Monroe and Daniel Monroe, both of Surry, a brother, Rodney Monroe, of Bedford, six grandchildren, Karla and Jamie Monroe, Kelley, Krystal, and Chase Gaines, Corina Olivo and two great-grandchildren, Dominic Olivo and Braedon Owen Porch. He was also survived by Kenneth, Ronnie, Roger, and Frank Martin and their families.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at the Callahan Family Cemetery in Evington, Va., with the Rev. Ray Triplett officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
