Virginia State Police is investigating a plane crash in southern Suffolk.

The crash was reported at 7:54 p.m. in the 1500 block of Cherry Grove Road, city spokesman Tim Kelley said. It happened near the intersection with Greenway Road south of Whaleyville.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue reported there were no injuries, Kelley added.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya said two state troopers responded to the scene to find a fixed-wing, single-engine Piper aircraft in an open field near the road.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified, Anaya stated. No further information was available Saturday evening.
