Suffolk police are investigating a death after locating a body in the water near the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel.

Emergency Communications was notified of an object believed to be a body on a sandbar in the water at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to a city press release. Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded and recovered the body of an adult male.

The man was later identified as Adam Lee Meeks, 40, of Suffolk, according to a city press release. His kayak was located nearby, and he was not wearing a life jacket.

Foul play is not suspected, according to the release, but the investigation remains ongoing.
