A bus fire on U.S. Route 58 westbound near Wilroy Road on Thursday snarled traffic but did not result in any injuries, a city spokesman said in a press release.
The fire was reported at 5:50 p.m., city spokesman Tim Kelley said. The road was shut down intermittently throughout the evening as crews cleaned up the scene and towed the bus.
The tour bus had 47 people on board at the time the fire started. Suffolk Fire and Rescue’s rehab bus was brought to the scene to temporarily shelter the occupants until a replacement bus could arrive.
The passengers were headed to a 4-H camp in Lake Gaston, N.C., Kelley said.
