A 21-year-old faces five misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty after animal control officers allegedly found a dead pit bull and other emaciated dogs that belonged to him.
Laquan Lemuel Jones, 21, was arrested Sunday.
Animal control officers were called to a home on South Sixth Street on Nov. 26, city Chief of Staff Debbie George said Monday. The initial report was about the dead dog.
They found the deceased dog, as well as four others that “were found to have no shelter and inadequate space,” George said.
Investigation revealed that the person living at the residence had “told the owner she was leaving and he needed to come and feed the dogs,” George said.
The living animals were taken into custody by animal control, and the dead dog was sent to the state lab for a necropsy, George said. The results of the necropsy were unavailable Monday.
