Mr. Cephas A. “Roy” Dawson, 208 Katherine St., departed this earthly life on Dec. 26, 2010. He was predeceased by his parents, John Dawson Sr. and Josephine Harding Dawson.

He was a member until his health declined at the Lakeview Missionary Baptist church. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP, American Legion No. 0141, VFW, and the DAV. His survivors include: one sister, Celestine D. Ashe; one brother, John Dawson Jr.; 10 nephews, eight nieces, two great-nephews, two great-nieces; one sister-in-law, Shirley Givens; a special friend, Betty Pope; and a host of other relatives. A special thanks to Ms. Yvonne Bailey, LCSW, Department of Veterans Affairs of Hampton, Va., Odyssey Healthcare, the Veterans of Foreign Affairs, and Chad Lee of Caring Hand Healthcare.

A funeral of triumph will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church; the Rev. John E. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Disabled American Veterans, 139 S. Saratoga St., Suffolk. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with the home going service.
