Jefferson L. ‘Buddy’ Knight

Jefferson Linwood Knight of 7965 Ruritan Blvd., respected and loved, graduated to his highest calling and obtained his spiritual degree Nov. 30, 2010, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1936, in Isle of Wight County, the second of 10 children to the late Reverend John L. and Bertha Mae Knight in Isle of Wight County. He received his early education in the public schools of Isle of Wight County and graduated from Isle of Wight County Training School and Norfolk State College (University).

At an early age, he confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined the Pulaski Baptist Church in Carrsville. There, he remained a faithful member until his health failed, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, Sunday school treasurer, chair of the Deacon Board, budget committee member and wherever else needed.

Other service organizations include: Holland Masonic Lodge No. 256 (chaplain), Alpha and Omega Consistory No. 9 (32nd Degree Mason), Arabia Temple No. 12, Suffolk Chapter – Norfolk State University Alumni Association, past president, Class of 1955 of Isle of Wight County Training School, Isle of Wight County Farm Bureau, Carrsville Woodpeckers Baseball Club and the Carrsville Community Day Committee. He served his jobs well with love and enthusiasm.

Jefferson served his country as a soldier in the Army and received an honorable discharge as a Sp4E4.

Jefferson retired in 1998 from Northrop Grumman in Newport News as a senior monitor in the Radcon Department. He will be remembered for his countless hours of service to his family, church family, and the community in which he lived. His wife, Janice and brother, Matthew preceded him in death.

He leaves to celebrate his life his two daughters, Troi Elaine (Greg) Greene of Norwalk, Conn., and Tracie Lynn of the home, who was his dedicated and devoted caregiver; five godchildren, Kirtina, Jessie Jr. Jonathan, Keira and Lisa; his mother, Bertha Mae Knight; five brothers, John F. (Mary) Knight, Bobby (Audrey) Knight, Sr., Dr. Woodrow M. (Alice) Knight, Dr. Ernest L. (Brenda) Knight and Jessie M. Knight Sr.; three sisters, Sylvia (Harrison) Dixon, Dr. Regina (Earl) Mason and Maryland Roberts; one foster sister, Brenda Brown (deceased); his mother-in-law, Marylue Moorer,; his sisters in-law, Ivery B. Knight, Cassandra (McArthur) Weeks, Burbette (Barnett) Taylor, Denise (William) Smith, Geraldine Winnegan and Cathy Fleming; his brothers-in-law, Eric Johnson and Jimmy Lowe; 14 nephews, thirteen nieces and four great nieces.

A funeral will be held at noon Friday at Pulaski Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Robert E. Rodgers. Interment will be in Knight Family Cemetery.
