WINDSOR—A 76-year-old woman was attacked by a pit bull when she attempted to pull the dog off her Jack Russell Terrier near Windsor Tuesday morning.
“Apparently the pit bull had attacked her dog, she intervened to try to break the dogs up and the pit bull turned on her,” said Isle of Wight County spokesman Don Robertson.
The unidentified woman suffered head injuries and was flown to the hospital from the Peanut Drive area.
Robertson didn’t know the seriousness of her injuries or her condition on Tuesday afternoon. The woman’s dog was also injured.
The pit bull is being held by authorities “pending the outcome of an investigation or a judge’s order,” according to Robertson.
