Margaret Stagg, 89, of 1101 Lake Kennedy Drive, Suffolk, passed away Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 in her residence. She was a native of Sunbury, N.C. and the daughter of the late Shelton and Elsie Lassiter. She was also predeceased by her husband, Charlie E. Stagg Sr., and two sons, Charlie Edward Stagg Jr. and Clinton Stagg.
She attended North Carolina public schools. She was an employee of Smithfield Packing Company for 12 years. She was the mother of Faith Cornerstone Holiness Church. Later, she became the mother of St. Timothy Baptist Church and later changed her membership. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all.
She leaves to cherish her memory six daughters, Elsie Washington, Viola Giles (Raymond), Eva Ralph (Thomas), all of Suffolk, Catherine Mayo (James), of Maneto, Va., Shirley Archer, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Roma Stagg, of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Ernest Stagg (Joyce) and Levon Stagg (Betty), both of Suffolk; 39 grandchildren, 104 great-grandchildren and 54 great-great-grandchildren; beloved granddaughter, Chiquita Mizell, of Franklin, Va.; one sister, Inez King, of Suffolk; three brothers, Mack L. Lassiter, Russell Lassiter (Mattie), both of Suffolk, Horace Lassiter (Eliza), of Detroit, Mich.; three sisters-in-law, Bertha Mae Powell, of Suffolk, Ruth Harris, of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Edith Lassiter, of Newark, N.J.; one brother-in-law, James Stagg, of Baltimore, Md.; other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 in St. Timothy Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Thomas E. Harden Jr. Interment will be in Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
